Our team had the privilege of speaking with Hina Anis to learn more about her skills as a nutritionist.

Who is a Dietitian?

Hina explains that a dietitian is someone who provides specialized advice on nutrition-related issues such as weight management, digestive problems, food allergies, diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, and other health-related problems. Working with a nutritionist can help an individual develop a sustainable and healthy lifestyle that will benefit them in the long run.

Is there a difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

Although both dietitians and nutritionists can provide nutritional advice, the level of education, training, and regulation is different. Dietitians typically work in clinical settings, such as hospitals or healthcare facilities, while nutritionists may work in a variety of settings, such as gyms, community centers, or private practice.

Understanding Basic Nutrition

Our conversation with Hina covered several frequently asked nutrition questions. Here are some of the insights she shared.

How many calories are required for a normal woman in her 30s, and do calories vary with age?

Typically, a woman in her 30s requires about 1,800 to 2,000 calories per day to maintain her weight. However, as women age, their metabolism slows, and their body composition changes, affecting their caloric needs. Women in their 40s and 50s require fewer calories than women in their 30s, as their muscle mass tends to decrease, and their activity levels may decrease. However, the difference in calorie needs is generally small and can be compensated by making small adjustments to diet and physical activity.

What is healthier – three large meals or several small meals a day?

Hina suggests that eating one significant meal and two small meals throughout the day is more beneficial rather than three large meals. Smaller, more frequent meals can help to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

Is it essential to eat breakfast, and what can be an ideal healthy breakfast?

Hina explained that breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day as it helps kick-start your metabolism, stabilizes blood sugar levels and provides you with the energy you need to start the day. She recommends combining Greek Yogurt, spinach, scrambled eggs, chia seeds and oats with fresh fruit for a healthy and well-rounded breakfast.

Does eating late at night make you fat?

Eating late at night can be a problem for several reasons. First, when you eat late at night, your body’s metabolism slows down, and the calories consumed may not be burned off efficiently, as they would during the day. Additionally, eating before bed can interrupt your sleep, disrupt hormones that regulate appetite and metabolism, making you more likely to overeat the next day. People who tend to eat late at night may also rely on less healthy options such as snacks, sweets and high-calorie foods, which can contribute to weight gain over time.

The Absolute Healthiest Foods

Leafy green vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruit, are some of the healthiest foods that should be in your shopping cart every day. Incorporating these nutrient-dense foods into your daily meals can provide significant health benefits.

How much does diet play a role in healthy hair, clear skin, and strong nails?

Hina emphasizes that the food people eat is the building blocks of their body. Deficiencies in certain nutrients can lead to hair loss, skin problems, and brittle nails. For example, protein is a critical nutrient for healthy hair, skin, and nails. It provides the amino acids necessary for the growth and repair of these tissues. Iron is another important nutrient, as it helps transport oxygen to the hair follicles and skin cells. Zinc is also essential for healthy skin and nails, as it plays a role in cell growth.

The Best Diet to Follow

There are many different diets to follow, but according to Hina, the Mediterranean diet is one of the best. This balanced and varied diet is focused on minimally processed foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and olive oil. This diet has been linked to many health benefits, including improved heart health and reduced risk of chronic disease.

What and When to Eat around Your Training Sessions

It is recommended to eat a pre-workout meal or snack 30 minutes to 2 hours before exercise, depending on the size of the meal. Try consuming a small portion of Greek yogurt or a protein shake. Also, it’s important to stay hydrated during exercise, especially if you sweat profusely. Be sure to drink water or an electrolyte-rich sports drink to replace lost fluids and minerals.

Consuming protein after exercise can help repair and rebuild muscle tissue. Choose lean protein sources, such as chicken, fish, tofu, or a homemade smoothie. Eating carbohydrates after exercise can also help replenish your glycogen stores and aid in muscle recovery. A good alternative is a piece of fruit, whole-grain pita bread, sweet potato, or brown rice.

The one thing you would tell your clients to stop taking?

According to Hina, a thing people should refrain from consuming is all synthetic commercial oils. These oils are marketed as cholesterol-free, but they tend to increase triglycerides.

The Best Nutritional Advice

Hina’s advice to everyone is to invest in their health as it is their wealth. She believes that wellness is worth the expense, and neglect can quickly turn into illness. As the saying goes, “prevention is always better than cure.”

In conclusion, Hina Anis is a leading nutritionist in Karachi, Pakistan, and her expertise is highly sought after. She is a trusted source of nutritional advice and has helped many individuals achieve a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Incorporating Hina’s recommended diet and lifestyle changes into everyday life can result in significant health benefits.
